Daithí Ó Drónaí Origin Ballyvaughan, County Clare, Ireland Genres Experimental Instruments Guitar, bass guitar, fiddle Website Official site Notable instruments Synthesised fiddle Daithí Ó Drónaí English Droney[1] is an Irish bassist and fiddler, perhaps best known for playing original music on the electronic synthesised fiddle.[2] He came to national prominence after fiddling on the first series of The All Ireland Talent Show in 2009.
Since reaching the final, where he came in sixth place, Ó Drónaí has appeared on several television series and performed in cities such as Cork, Dublin and Galway, as well as at the Electric Picnic 2009 and Castlepalooza 2010 music festivals.

Early life
Ó Drónaí played the traditional fiddle whilst growing up in Ballyvaughan, County Clare.[2] He progressed to playing the bass guitar in bands such as Keepsake and The Shackletons.[2] He further developed his fiddling skills by the use of loop pedals and sounds.[2]
The All Ireland Talent Show
Main article: The All Ireland Talent Show (series 1)Ó Drónaí auditioned for the first series of The All Ireland Talent Show in 2009. He was selected to represent the West and was mentored by namesake Dáithí Ó Sé.[3] Since appearing he received attention from several female fans.[4] He performed fourth on week six during the first live show.[5] He donned a red t-shirt over a checked shirt, belt, jeans and multicolour trainers and combined a Korg synthesiser with a bow, plectrum and loop pedals.[5] Judges Dana Rosemary Scallon and Shane Lynch wondered if viewers would understand the performance.[5] However, Ó Drónaí easily qualified for the final when he came top of a public vote.[3]
Ó Drónaí was the third of six acts to perform in the final which took place on the weekend of Saint Patrick's Day.[6] He had damaged his violin during rehearsals but was able to mend it in time to perform in the final.[6] He had been one of the favourites to win.[7] However, he was the first to leave the show.[6]
Post The All Ireland Talent Show
Ó Drónaí appeared on Seoige, Ice and Access All Areas after The All Ireland Talent Show. He supported Kíla at Vicar Street.[2][8] Other performances have included a headlining slot at Cork's Pavilion Theatre and a performance at the Róisín Dubh in Galway.[2] There were also appearances at Electric Picnic 2009 and the Punchestown Racing Festival.[2][9] In 2010, he was announced as part of the line-up for Castlepalooza.[10] In August 2010 Daithi appeared in the audition phases of Sky 1's Must Be The Music, gaining 3 yes votes from the judges. He later was chosen as one of the 15 Semi-Finalists, his tracks will be available to download on Sky Music.
