Dale A. Kimball

Dale A. Kimball (born November 28, 1939)[1] was confirmed as a judge for United States district court for the District of Utah by the United States Senate on November 24, 1997.[2]

Kimball received a BS in Political Science from Brigham Young University in 1964 and a Juris Doctor in 1967 from University of Utah Law School.

Kimball is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in many positions within the church, including as a Regional representative of the Twelve, a stake president, a high councilor and a bishop.[3]

Starting in 2009, the third competency hearing on whether Brian David Mitchell should stand trial for the kidnapping of Elizabeth Smart was held before Kimball. Mitchell was found competent to proceed to trial by Kimball on Monday, March 1, 2010.[4] Mitchell was later found guilty in December 2010.[citation needed]
