Daphne Blunt (born October 23, 1997) stars as Kayla in the Radio Disney serial "My Dream," described by The Hollywood Reporter as "a contemporary story on a format reminiscent of the 1940s, before TV was pervasive."[1] Unlike Depression-era radio series, however, that typically featured episodes lasting 30 minutes, episodes of Disney's "My Dream" last just 90 seconds each, described as "bite-size chucks" by Disney executives.[2] The character of Kayla is a 14-year old teenage girl from the midwest who wants to be rockstar. Listeners follow her in each episode as she pursues her dream while dealing with the usual struggles, responsibilities, and emotional ups and downs of an everyday teen.[3]

Daphne is the host of Daphne's LaLaLand on Fanlala.com; which is also syndicated on cable television around the world.[4] Daphne is also a celebrity host for Fanlala.com for special events such as the 2010 Hollywood Christmas Parade.[5]

Daphne made her first television appearance at the age of ten on the CBS daytime drama The Young & The Restless.[6] She starred in the movie "The Things You Lose in the Ocean,"[7] which premiered in May, 2010, filmed as part of the Dodge College Graduate Thesis Program at Chapman University in Orange, California.[8] Other TV and film credits include Nickelodeon game show BrainSurge, Lifetime movie Amish Grace, Disney.com webisode Solution Street, and Nickelodeon sitcom Big Time Rush.[9] Daphne also starred in the 2009 television pilot My Daddy is the President.[10]

Daphne is also a recording artist and songwriter. She was a finalist with her pop song Crush Rush in the 2009 International Songwriting Competition.[11]

Daphne has appeared in numerous national TV commercials, including Disney Interactive and Kmart’s 2009 Back to School Series.[12] Her Kmart commercial "Rockstare," which received much notoriety, can be viewed on Youtube.

Biography

Daphne Louise Blunt was born at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas. She began acting at the age of three appearing in local theater in Overland Park, Kansas. In 2004, Daphne moved to Miami, FL, where she continued to perform in local theater and began modeling for one of the top modeling agencies in the country, Irene Marie Models of MTV fame through the reality show 8th and Ocean. In 2008, Daphne moved to Los Angeles to pursue her acting/singing career. She is represented by Jackie Lewis, formerly of Diverse Talent Group and now a partner at Lewis and Beal in Los Angeles, California[13] Daphne's Manager is Linda Henrie of Go Talent Management in Studio City, California.[14]

In addition to her entertainment career, Daphne Blunt is the founder of Green Hope, a charity to encourage kids to make the planet a better place to live.[15] She has also used Daphne Blunt Charities and her Official Website as a conduit to raise money for other noted charities, most recently for Haiti relief. Daphne is a member of Calvary Chapel in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and attends Shepard of the Hills Church in Los Angeles, California.

Career

Daphne Blunt stars in "My Dream" on Radio Disney, which first aired on July 5, 2010. While radio episodes are sound only, each is turned into a webisode by Radio Disney and made available on their RadioDisney.com.[16] During the first season of the series, Daphne released the song "Hello World," her first single on Radio Disney. For her role in the series, Daphne has received international attention, including coverage in the United States,[17] Canada,[18] China,[19] India,[20] Singapore,[21] South Africa,[22] Taiwan,[23] and UAE.[24]

Daphne first appeared on network television in 2008 as Jayele on the CBS daytime drama The Young and The Restless. Shortly after she starred in the 2009 television sitcom pilot My Daddy is the President,[28] where she played Kylie, the daughter of a newly elected Obama-like character. In the pilot, Kylie has to use her charm and wits (plus a little magic) to restore her dad's State of the Union speech to the computer that she and her friends have messed up while playing video games in the oval office.

Daphne starred in the 2010 film "The Things You Lose in the Ocean,"[29] filmed as part of the Dodge College Graduate Thesis Program at Chapman College in Orange, California.[30] The film is a story about Caribbean black magic in which a young girl - Jilly-Ann, played by Daphne - must fight off the demons created by her mother years before. Set in the 1940s, the film has a vintage feel. It will be entered into a number of film festivals in 2010.

Other TV and film credits include Nickelodeon game show BrainSurge, Lifetime movie Amish Grace, Disney.com webisode Solution Street, Nickelodeon sitcom Big Time Rush, Up Jump the Boogie, and Strange Little Girl.[31]

Daphne has appeared in numerous commercial advertisements for national accounts including Disney, Disney.com, Disney Interactive Studios, Kmart,[32] Under Armour, Broder Brothers, and Knippies.

In July 2009 Daphne Blunt recorded her first pop single entitled "Crush Rush"[33] and followed it shortly with her first music video.[34] In the fall of 2009, Daphne recorded her second pop single entitled "Rock n Roll." [35] Daphne co-wrote both songs with Los Angeles music talent Jonathan George, grand champion winner of Ed McMahon's Next Big Star,[36] a sequel to Star Search.

Daphne was named a finalist in the 2009 International Songwriting Competition,[37] which had over 15,000 entries. The ISC has a prestigious panel of judges that will be reviewing the finalists including Grammy winners Steve Winwood, Timbaland, Rob Thomas from Matchbox 20, Adele, and Jerry Lee Lewis. The judges also include industry executives including Rick Krim from VH1, Brian Malouf from Walt Disney Records, Douglas C. Cohn from Nickelodeon, and Amanda Ghost from Epic Records.[38]
