The Darling Underwing (Catocala cara) is a moth of the Noctuidae family. The species can be found in the Eastern part of the United States. Subspecies Catocala cara carissima is found from Georgia to Texas.

The wingspan is 70-85 mm. The moths flies from July to October depending on the location.

The larvae feed on Populus and Salix species, especially Salix nigra.

Subspecies

Catocala cara carissima is now considered to be a valid species Catocala carissima.
