Licensing and accreditation status

Delta International University is not accredited. On May 28, 2009, the Louisiana Board of Regents conditionally approved Delta to operate a postsecondary academic degree granting institution for a three-year period. Conditions of the approval were that Delta must seek accreditation from the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS), must report annually to the Board of Regents on its progress, and must show evidence of successful ACICS candidacy status within one year of making formal application for candidacy for accreditation.[1] On its website, Delta reports that it holds accreditation from a body called the International Association for Distance Learning, which is an unrecognized accreditation body.[2] Because the school lacks accreditation by any recognized accreditation body, it is considered to be unaccredited. The use of unaccredited degree titles is legally restricted or illegal in some jurisdictions in the United States.[3]

Partnerships

Other institutions identifying themselves as having partnerships with DIU include the Management Institute of Canada and the Khurasan Institute of Higher Education in Afghanistan.[4][5] Both institutions lack recognized accreditation. The Management Institute of Canada states that its students receive their degrees from DIU[4] and the Khurasan Institute states that graduates of its English-language program are awarded BBA degrees from DIU.[5] DIU founder and president Alain Hoodashtian is listed as a member of the board of directors of the Khurasan Institute.[6][7]
