Diocese of Assam

Diocese of Assam

The Diocese of Assam was a diocese of the Church of England in North-East India.

The diocese was created from the Diocese of Calcutta in 1915.[1] Upon Indian independence in 1947, it became the Diocese of North India[2] in the Anglican Church of India, Pakistan, Burma and Ceylon, and it is now part of the united Church of North India.

Bishops

The colonial diocese had three diocesan bishops:[3]

  • 1915–1924: Herbert Pakenham-Walsh (1871–1959)
  • 1924–1945: George Hubback (1882–1955)
  • 1946–1948: Nirod Biswas
