A Dominican Argentine (Spanish: dominicano-argentino) is an Argentine citizen of full or partial Dominican ancestry.


History

Dominicans residing in Argentina in the pursuit for a better life. Specific data on the amount of remittances from Argentina to the native land is unknown, given that the Dominican community here is not considered a large one. There are barely six thousand Dominicans residing in Buenos Aires, most of which are women that exhibit an irregular migratory situation.

Buenos Aires province concentrates 30 percent of the Dominican emigrants. The rest are spread across the remaining national territory.[1]

Dominican women in prostitution

According to the UN's International Organization for Migration, young women from the Dominican Republic began arriving to Argentina in unprecedented numbers in the 1990s as prostitutes. Many of the Dominican prostitutes ending up in Buenos Aires.[2] Thousands of destitute Dominican women are being victimized by human trafficking in the global sex trade, into other countries including the US.
