Band history

The Donots were founded in 1993 by Ingo, Guido, Jan-Dirk, Stone, and Jens Trippner. The name stands for the philosophy of the band to do nothing, which was linked with a wink. On 16 April 1994 the Donots celebrated their stage debut in the Scheune (German word for barn) in their hometown Ibbenbueren. In their early years they played a lot of concerts together with bands like Blink-182, Propagandhi, No Fun at All and No Use for a Name.

The Donots released their second album Tonight's Karaoke Contest Winners in spring of 1998. At the same time they played on their first tour with Samiam and ErrorType:11. In 1999 their third album Better Days Not Included was released through the major label Supersonic Records (Sony BMG).

The breakthrough in Germany was in 2001 with the album Pocketrock, mainly through the single release "Whatever Happened to the 80s". In fall 2001 they were on tour with the American band 'Midtown' which led through Germany, Austria and Switzerland. A year later Pocketrock was released all over Europe via the record label Burning Heart Records.

The Donots released their fourth album Amplify the Good Times on June 17, 2002. End of 2002 the Donots were on European tour with the Swedish band Millencolin and on their own Amplify The Good tour through Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain and France. In 2003, the album Amplify the Good Times became a huge success in Japan, which included their first Japan tour. Together with the band Anti-Flag they recorded the protest song "You've Been to Our Shows, You've Sung Our Songs, Now Go to a Fucking Protest!" against the Iraq War. It was released for free via the internet. In August 2004, as the first European band, Donots contributed the song "Time's Up" to the compilation Rock Against Bush Vol 2, which was released through Fat Wreck Chords.

On November 14, 2006 the best of compilation album The Story So Far – Ibbtown Chronicles was released, which includes all singles, B-sides and two new songs called "Duck and Cover" and "Play Dead". This publication sealed their termination at GUN Records, from which the band separated for personal reasons. "Over time we fought each other more and more, rather than looking for solutions together. We simply did not understand each other anymore. The last record was actually just damage control. Even during promotional activities, we were absolutely not on the same wavelength. Especially with video clips, selection of singles and the entire image of the band, "says Guido, guitarist of the Donots. In 2007 they played at the 25th Rheinkultur (a German open-air music festival), which was their biggest concert with over 200,000 visitors.

On March 28, 2008, they released the album Coma Chameleon through their own record label Solitary Man Records. The single "Stop the Clocks" was nominated for an important German music award called '1 Live Krone'. On September 22, 2009, the EP To Hell with Love was released in the UK.

"Calling", the first single from the eighth studio album The Long Way Home was digitally released on March 12, 2010. The album was released as a limited edition and as a normal version through Solitary Man Records on March 26, 2010, in Germany. On May 28, 2010, they released the second single "Forever Ends Today". In May, June and July the Donots were invited by Green Day to play with them on all German dates of the Green Day Tour 2010. A special edition of The Long Way Home including songs from the album Coma Chameleon was released on September 21, 2010, in UK through the label Lockjaw Records.
