nihongo|Lei Fang|レイ・ファン|Rei Fan|derived from Chinese: 麗鳳 Pinyin: "Lì Fèng" is a fictional video game character from the video game series "Dead or Alive". Lei Fang is one of three female characters to appear in every installment so far, the other two being Kasumi and Tina Armstrong.

History

Lei Fang joined the tournament in order to fight Jann Lee, a martial arts expert who saved her life from a bunch of thugs six years ago. For that, she was very grateful, yet felt that she could have handled the situation herself. After that incident, she mastered the art of Tai Chi Chuan and now seeks to prove her independence. Lei Fang fights well in the DOA tournament which secretly has a rivalry towards Ayane as a friend of Kasumi. Tina Armstrong also appears to have a grudge against her.

Lei Fang also enters the tournament for a small justice role, as seen in her ending in DOA3 and when facing Bass Armstrong in the fourth tournament.

Until the events of Dead Or Alive Xtreme 2, Lei Fang has put priority in her fighting skill, in which after the tournaments she enters New Zack Island for a vacation she entered of her own free will, without the call from Zack.

Personality

Lei Fang is a spunky, intelligent and cheerful 19-year-old student. She was born April 23rd (Taurus with Aries qualities). Practicing martial arts has given her a strong dedication to self-improvement, both mentally and physically. Lei Fang hopes that by honing her own skills, she can eventually help others to do the same. At the same time, her young age and general inexperience with the world around her can sometimes cause her to not fully think things through.

Along with a strong motivation for self-improvement, Lei Fang is also somewhat arrogant. She became angry at Jann Lee for helping in a time of need, rather than thanking him for his assistance. She also doesn't hesitate to mock an opponent after a victory in battle. Also, Lei Fang is known as a Tai Chi Quan genius to many others.

Gameplay

Lei Fang is a very technical character, focusing on powerful holds and parry maneuvers to expose the enemy for counterattacks. As her counter holds are strong, her grapples and throws are better than average. She also has an excellent air-juggling game. A common combo starter is the "Renkan-Sho-Kinda", which hits 3 times in succession, and depending on the terrain height and launch duration, can hit up to 6 times in succession.

Her kicks, similar to Gen Fu, are also excellent combo starters (such as "Sanren-Kyaku") and have an excellent execution and recovery time frame. Due to her varying attack string levels, she can be very difficult to counter against.

Rivals

* Jann Lee is the reason why she enters the Dead or Alive Tournaments. She hopes to one day defeat him. Although, she does admire him at times. As a Tag Team, Jann Lee and her are a full yin-yang pair with a total of three dynamic tag manuevers.

* Tina Armstrong and her have an obvious rivalry. In both DOAX Games, it is confirmed as a very strong one. This was possibly due to their encounter in Dead or Alive 2 when the two women demonstrate their different philosophies of strength. Even though they have a rivalry, their different philosophies help reconcile differences as a fully compatible tag team.

* Bass Armstrong becomes a rival to Lei Fang when he was attacking locals at a casino, until she stood in his way knowing he would try and attack her as well. Lei Fang redirects his attack and throws him into the busy street where they continue their battle. With that, Bass seems to have a grudge against her, just like his daughter.

Tag Team Allies

Jann Lee
* Full yin-yang partners with three dynamic tag manuevers. Jann Lee initiates one for Lei Fang and Lei Fang initiates two to tag Jann Lee into the fight.

Helena
* Two fluid styles of Kung Fu come together. They share two elegant duo tag manuevers.

Tina Armstrong
* Two different strengths come together and form two tag manuevers. Although they seem rivals in the second DOA and share different opinions, it seems that they can go very well with each other, when in a Tag.

Gen Fu
* Gen Fu initiates to Lei Fang and together make one powerhouse tag with wall damage potential.

Zack
* They both jam their opponent with a double knee. Zack knees them once more while Lei Fang lifts the opponent (due to the momentum of Zack's kick) to the ground.

Ein
* Lei Fang initiates by kicking opponents up into back somersaults and Ein catches them with an axe kick, driving them to the ground.

Eliot
* Lei Fang's new partnership in DOA4. They share one tag initiated by Eliot, but doing Lei Fang's signature move as a duo.

DOA: Dead or Alive

Lei Fang (portrayed by Ying Wang) appears as a background character in several scenes, and during the beginning of the tournament, loses to Gen Fu. Lei Fang is one of the only female characters, alongside Hitomi, not involved in the film's female protagonists alliance, unlike the other female characters.

Trivia

*In Dead or Alive 4, she is one of the characters not fighting Alpha-152 in story mode. She instead fights Jann Lee in her final stage. Lei Fang was actually meant to fight Alpha 152, according to Jann Lee's story mode. She was defeated though, even before she faced Alpha-152. The two blows Alpha-152 inflicted had disabled her, resulting in Jann Lee taking over the fight.

*The name "Lei Fang" (Simplified Chinese: 丽凤 Lì Fèng) means "beautiful phoenix", which is a traditional name for Chinese girls.

* Lei Fang seems to have a very good relationship with Hitomi, as is shown in DOAX. This could be strengtened by the fact that they are both very keen martial artists.
