Venser

A hermetic artificer from Rift-Era Urborg. Despite an Urborg law forbidding the construction of artifacts, he spent most of his life scavenging dismembered Phyrexian bodies and turning them into various machines. His greatest and most precious invention was his 'ambulator,' a purely-mechanical teleportation device. It was this machine which brought Venser to the attention of Teferi and Jhoira, who were trying to figure out a way to heal the time rifts. It soon became apparent to them that Venser was far more than he appeared or was even aware. The artificer was, in fact, the first of a new breed of planeswalker, who could walk the planes as a mortal and who would be immune to the shift that the multiverse was about to undertake. Venser eventually learned to teleport and planeswalk on command. (Card: Dismal Failure, Venser, Shaper Savant, Venser's Diffusion, Venser's Sliver, Venser, the Sojourner.)

During the fight Greven’s first mate, Vhati il-Dal, sees a prime opportunity to rid himself of his captain and gain command of the Predator. He orders the ship’s cannons to fire on the Weatherlight. The Weatherlight capsizes and throws Gerrard overboard, but not Greven. Greven confronts Vhati with his treachery and throws him overboard. (Card: Vhati il-Dal) (Tempest)

Virot Maglan

The real name of the Cabal Patriarch (The First). He stated that his hate came to be before his birth, when his mother tried to abort him. When Virot rose to manhood, he killed her. He then left to fend for himself by being a wandering warrior. He formed the infamous Otarian Cabal when the numena Kuberr appeared before him in a dream. He promised him many blessings for every life spilled. He took on many gangs and killed their leaders. The members became the first members of his "club". With all the money acquired from their activities, the Cabal created the first of the pit-fighting arenas, thus ensuring Kuberr souls for his bloated coffers. In return the numena gave Virot longevity and near-indestructibility similar to a planeswalker, as well as the touch that can kill and absorb souls. This forced Virot to employ servants to do his bidding, just before the fall of Cabal City Chainer killed most of Virot's servants. Later after settling in Apheto he employed other servants this time using trained warriors as his servants. The Patriarch attempted to use his touch to kill Jeska, sister to Kamahl. Unexpectedly, she not only survived but developed a persona, known as Phage, and abilities similar to his own. This caused a unique affection between the two as they could only touch each other. Phage and the Patriarch would conceive a child together which became the physical incarnation of Kuberr. Virot's enterprise lived for centuries, with its leader's life secure as long as its patron was satisfied. It met its degradation after Virot died, when Braids killed her own leader.
