Manuel António Leitão da Silva (born 29 January 1946 in Santo Tirso), commonly known as Manuel António, is a former Portuguese footballer. He played as a striker.

Football career

During his 13-year professional career, António played for only two clubs: having started out at Académica de Coimbra, his excellent performances earned him a transfer, at only 19, to national powerhouse Futebol Clube do Porto, where he appeared sparingly in three years (still managing to score regularly).

In 1968, Manuel António returned to Académica, being crowned the first division's topscorer in the first season in his second spell, with the Students finishing in sixth place. He saw out his career eight years later, at the same club, still having a further four seasons in double digits; he gained four caps for Portugal.
