The mall was opened in September 1990 and is owned by Ivanhoe Cambridge. The name of the mall comes from the two streets in which it is located.
In late 2008 to 2010 the mall went through extensive $64,000,000 renovations. The contract was awarded to EllisDon.
After the centre opened in 1990 many American retailers started to expand into the Canadian market. The renovations to Mapleview served to attract upscale International retailers to the centre to compete with the larger shopping centres in the Greater Toronto Area.

Renovations from fall 2008 into fall 2009 called "phase 1" added 100,000 sq ft (9,300 m2). of mall space allowing the centre to add 20 new retailers, two new full-service restaurants (Turtle Jacks and Earl's opened on the lower level of the new edition of the mall in late 2010) and moved and expanded the food court to seat 730, almost double what it was prior to renovations. The existing Centre was also given a contemporary makeover. The entire Centre was finished renovations by summer 2010.
The renovations have also seen many stores be relocated to make room for larger format stores or to new key areas of the mall after the expansion was finished. Many stores have closed to make room for more upscale retailers.
In February 2011 construction to build a second extension on the mall began on the upper level of the mall facing the QEW. Victoria's Secret will open in the new extension next to the newly opened Apple Store. Along with the Waterloo, Ontario Apple Store, Apple at Mapleview will be the second store in Canada the company will open outside a major urban centre.
