The Knights defeated Lakeland, 2-1 in an 11 inning, 3 hour and 14 minute game. Both teams scored their first runs in the first inning. Marian then went on to win the school's first ever semi-state championship by upsetting #1 Andrean, who was undefeated, 7-5, and then defeated #4 Yorktown in the semi-state finals, 7-6 in 8 innings. The Knights made their first ever state appearance, but lost to Crawfordsville, 5-1. Marian finished 21-11 in 2008. They made it to state again in 2011, but lost again to Crawfordsville, 8-3.

Quiz Bowl

Marian's quiz bowl team traveled to state in 2007, after making a few upsets in the St. Joseph Valley Conference Tournament, in which Marian was seeded 5th, by defeating (4)Penn (245-235), (1)South Bend Washington (280-240), and (3)South Bend St. Joseph's (215-210), which made them the conference tournament champions and allowed them to travel to state. The win was the first time the team ever won either a tournament or regular season title.[4] They defeated Shelbyville (320-170), and Culver Military Academy (205-200). Their losses were to South Bend Washington (340-105) and to the 3-time state champions, Lafayette Harrison (500-215) in the first round of the state playoffs. The Knights Quiz Bowl team finished 10-6, their best record in the history of the quiz bowl program. Prior to 2007, Marian's last trip to state was in the 2002-03 season when after Marian's worst finish in the regular season in school history the team put together a tremendous run in the tournament falling to eventual champion Clay high school but qualifying for state in the process. The 2002-03 team found tremendous difficulty in state failing to win any of their three matches. The team that made the trip was missing the vast majority of its senior leadership due to schedule conflicts.
