Marianne is a 1929 romantic drama about a French farm girl who, despite already having a French fiancé, falls in love with an American soldier during World War I. It was made first as a silent film, then as a musical with a different cast, though Marion Davies starred in both versions. This was Davies' first released talking movie.

Reception

Mordaunt Hall of the New York Times gave the musical a lukewarm review, stating, "As a quasi-musical comedy plot it is entertaining, but as a story its comedy is far from fresh."[1] He also noted that the film was "by no means a production that is suited to Miss Davies's talents."[1]
