Marinette High School

Marinette High School is a public high school in the city of Marinette, Wisconsin. It is part of the School District of Marinette, and averages an enrollment of 750 students.

Marinette High School shares a historic football rivalry with the neighboring high school in Menominee, Michigan. The two have hosted what is reported to be the oldest interstate rivalry between two public high schools in the country, dating back to 1894.[1]

On November 29, 2010 15 year old Samuel Hengel armed himself with two handguns, which were identified as a Hi-Point C9 9mm pistol and a Ruger Standard 22lr pistol, two knives, and more than 200 rounds of ammunition. He first excused himself to go to the bathroom, but instead went to his locker. Then, he returned to his classroom with his weapons in a duffel bag, then pulled out one of the handguns from the bag, and first shot at a tv while the class was watching a movie, and then captured 23 pupils and one teacher in their class. He held them hostage for several hours. When police tried to free the hostages, Samuel Hengel shot himself in the head. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition where he later died at 10:44 the next morning without regaining consciousness.[2]
