Mattia biagi

Mattia Biagi (born 1974) is an Italian professional artist, whose work has been a substantial part of significant solo and group exhibitions worldwide. The various tools and mixed media that he uses includes acrylics, tar, wood, fabric, and other items found in nature, to create avant garde sculptures and designs. He is represented in the permanent collections of Officine dell'Immagine in Milan[1] and Anna Kustera Gallery in New York.[2] In 2011, his collective body of work was the subject of an independent book, entitled Mattia Biagi – Black Tar. Professional background

Biagi attended art and design schools from Milan, including Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera and I.R.F.A. His knowledge and passion includes photography, art, fashion, design and architecture. Biagi's multicultural influences and humanitarian issues arising from seeing war torn lands and ecological devastation and materialism, along with the artist's study of his own personal journey are often reflected through his work.

Biagi's work is shown internationally at galleries and museums such as The Mint Museum of Craft + Design in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Biagi has lived in Los Angeles since 2001. The city inspired him to produce a new body of works using tar as an expressive artistic medium. His idea for black tar came forth while he was visiting the La Brea Tar Pits (a natural geological site featuring pools of tar that contain fossils).
