The Médaille d'honneur des Sapeurs Pompiers (Honor Medal for Firefighters) was created by an act of 22 December 1937, and governed by Decree No. 62-1073 of 11 September 1962. It is awarded by the Minister of the Interior.

Description of the Medal

The medal for tenure of service is round 33mm in diameter and is presented in silver, silver-gilt (vermeil) and gold. Each grade above silver is denoted by a clasp of increasing detail. For exceptional service the medal is presented in silver and silver-gilt. The ribbon will contain a rosette to indicate that it is for exceptional services.
