Mesquite Solar project

Mesquite Solar project

The Mesquite Solar project is a photovoltaic solar power plant being built in Arlington, Maricopa County, Arizona, owned by Sempra Generation.[1] Phase 1 will have a nameplate capacity of 150 megawatts.[2] The project has enough land for at least 600 MW.[2]

Mesquite Solar 1 will use 800,000 solar panels bought from Suntech Power.[3][4] The EPC contractor is Zachry Holdings.[5] Construction began in 2011 and will be completed in 2013.[3] Mesquite 1 is projected to generate more than 350 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually, and that clean electricity could offset roughly 200,000 tons of carbon emissions each year.[5]

Phase 1 will cost about $600 million.[6] Sempra Generation has signed a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) for the 150 MW from Mesquite 1.[1]
