He played for Peter Symonds 1st XV and played alongside players such as George Daniels, Phil White, John Milburn, Patrick Leahy, Graham Dawson (Co-founder of MMU rugby union Team) and the Crab Twins. He usually plays at Fullback for Harlequins.
Career
Brown made his First XV debut for Quins during the 2005/06 season, scoring a try on debut in the pre-season friendly against London Irish on August 12, 2005. He was part of the England Under 21 team that won the 2006 Six Nations Grand Slam and also competed in the Under 21 World Championships later that year.
In the 2006–2007 season, although he is still in Quins' Academy side he has established himself as first choice full back and has also been capped by the England Saxons in the first two matches of the year. A fantastic season by the aspiring Fullback resulted in him collecting 9 tries and achieving a place on the Sky Sports Dream Team.
In May 2007, Brown got selected for England to tour South Africa. He luckily wasn't affected by the food poisoning which some squad members picked up and won his first full England cap in the record 58–10 defeat to South Africa. On 1 June 2008, he was also in the starting XV for England against the Barbarians at Twickenham but this was a non-cap match.
Brown was called into the England Saxons side that defeated Ireland A on February 1, 2008.[2][3][4]
An admitted fan of rugby league, the Harlequins rugby union has issued a statement on its website stating that "Mike Brown stays with rugby".[5]
Brown is a natural talent, straight out of the academy coaching side and is well known for his fire and passion for the game on the pitch. Brown was out of the first XV team for the first four games of the season due to a wrist injury sustained last season, but that probably made him more eager to join in the fray. It is well known that he has been working hard with sprint coach Margot Wells to increase his speed and this has been shown plenty of times this season. His game against Toulouse proved he has the making of an England fifteen as he made jinxing runs and created valuable opportunities for others. Brown’s quick hands helped Josh Drauniniu to a try at Northampton and his tackle breaking and ball carrying was vital in the Bath and Worcester games as well as setting up George Lowe’s tries against Gloucester. Only recently turned twenty six, Brown has the makings and the ability to grow into a world class fifteen. Time and patience will be vital in his growth. He is also a very accurate goal kicker and he is now one of the key members of the 2011 unbeaten Quins team
