Minettia is a genus of small flies of the family Lauxaniidae. They have almost worldwide distribution, is one of the most species rich genera of the family with slightly less than 100 known species. The Palaearctic is the most diverse with some 56 described species. The genus is divided into 3 subgenera.[1]

The genus is characterized by the grey microtrichose mesonotum, a pair of black spots on the lateroventral side of the scutellum, 6 rows of acrostichal setulae, only one dorsal preapical seta on the midtibia, dark transverse stripes on the abdominal tergites and distinctive genitalia.[1]
