Musou Orochi 2 (無双OROCHI 2), is a 2012 hack and slash video game developed by Tecmo Koei and Omega Force for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. This is the fourth installment of the crossover series Musou Orochi, being the combination of the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors series. This installment serves as a sequel to Warriors Orochi 2. The game will be released in Japan on December 22, 2011. There has been no confirmation regarding release in North America or Europe.

Characters

Over 120 characters have been confirmed to be playable in this title. Character models will be taken from Dynasty Warriors 7: Xtreme Legends and Samurai Warriors 3: Z. This means that all characters up to these current titles will appear in the game. Cut characters such as Zuo Ci, Musashi Miyamoto, Kojiro Sasaki and Goemon Ishikawa will also be returning.

Most Musou Orochi exclusive characters up to Musou Orochi Z will be returning meaning Benkei and Sanzang Fashi will be playable. However, it is still unknown as to the involvement of Orochi and whether his two guardian creatures Dodomeki and Gyuki are included.

Characters from other Tecmo Koei franchises featuring in this title include those from Ninja Gaiden, Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War, Warriors: Legends of Troy and now Dead or Alive as well as Trinity: Souls of Zill O'll where they will appear and star in their own alternate version of stages within the game. Based on the current storyline, the only characters initially avaliable will be Ma Chao, Hanbei Takenaka and Sima Zhao.

The following are confirmed new characters:

  • Kaguya; The moon princess from Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. Holds the answer to defeating the Serpent Army with the power of time travel. Wields 'Sakaki and Mirrors',
  • Shuten Doji; Ruler of the Oni. Travels to the dimensional realm to learn more about himself. Wields 'Giant Gourd'.
  • Ne Zha; A heavenly general who fought the monkey king, Sun Wukong. Resurrected from beyond the grave to inhibit his current cyborg state. Wields 'Elephant Rings'.

The following are confirmed collaboration characters:

  • Ryu Hayabusa; Arrives in the dimensional realm before the events of Ninja Gaiden 3. Wields 'Dragon Sword'. Appears in Anegawa.
  • Jeanne d'Arc; Mysteriously transported while gathering troops. Wields 'Lance'. Appears in Mt Dingjun.
  • Achilles; Mysteriously transported moments before arrows pierce him. Wields 'Xiphos'. Appears in Nan Zhong.
  • Ayane; Mysteriously teleported to the dimensional realm after the events of Dead or Alive 4. Wields 'Short Swords'. Appears in Hasedo.
  • Nemea; Pulled into the dimensional realm after the events of Trinity: Souls of Zill O'll. Wields 'Spear'. Appears in Kyushu.

Story/Plot

The story begins several years after the events of Warriors Orochi 2, with a decisive battle against a multi-headed serpent known as Youja. This giant phantom serpent as well as the re-appearance of Kiyomori has once again, thrust their peaceful world back into chaos. Many warriors are killed, and the serpent appears to be unbeatable. However, the Moon Princess Kaguya appears and uses the power of time travel to send back the last remaining generals - Takenaka Hanbei, Sima Zhao and Ma Chao to the past to save their fallen comrades.

The main focus of this title is the complete eradication of Orochi's forces. Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors characters are also given the choice to return to their time lines.

The themes of the title is a "Heroic Drama" between several characters. Elements of friendship, romance, betrayal and loyalty are included in the story. A powered up story compared to previous titles.

Gameplay

The following are new and old features included in this title:

  • Characters gain their movesets from DW7:XL (EX attacks) and SW3:Z (C5 and C9 attacks).
  • Characters will use their weapons from Dynasty Warriors Next, eliminating clone movesets.
  • Bond system from DW7 returns, can alter story scenario and character interaction.
  • Unlock new missions by increasing bond, team counters can increase bond between who rescues who.
  • Town system from DW7 also returns, Weapon shop also returns.
  • New "Restaurant" option for town, host banquets and talk to characters for further bonding.
  • New character attack type: "Wonder".
  • New "Switch Combo", trigger a special attack from quickly swapping team members. (uses musou gauge)
  • New "Dash Chain", continue dashing after performing a sprinting attack.
  • New "Break Guard", damaging blow back attack from guarding dealing critical damage.
  • New version of Triple Attack called "True Union Arts". utilizes a "Union Gauge" which when filled, will enable a simultaneous attack with all three team members. (depending on bond level)
  • Possible to swap characters during this, where a special flash attack finishes the enemy off. All enemy possessions are dropped when defeated by this attack.
  • No morale gauge.
  • Two player Co-op available.
  • New "Musou Battlefield" Mode, allowing the creation and uploading of scenarios online. Optional commentary available.
  • Downloadable content has yet to be confirmed.

Related Media

Simultaneous store front meetings in Japan will take place at the end of November until mid December for Dynasty Warriors Next and Musou Orochi 2. Attendees can obtain a original clear file for Musou Orochi 2 and can play demos for both games at these meetings.

Early buyers will receive a downloadable serial code granting Santa costumes to Mitsunari Ishida, Wang Yuanji, and Da Ji. The Treasure Box release will include a calendar which has characters represent the months and days individually, an original soundtrack, and an exclusive downloadable serial code for Ma Chao's weapon. Consumers who use Gamecity's shopping service have the option of obtaining a Three Kingdoms or Warring States themed hat.
