The Burmese passport or the Myanmar passport is the passport issued to citizens and nationals of Burma (officially called "the Union of Myanmar").

Types

Two types are currently[when?] issued by Ministry of Home Affairs. Government officials are issued with a green passport. All others receive a red passport. The ordinary red passport is valid for 3 years and renewable. The green is valid for a maximum of three years and is not renewable.

Currently,[when?] ordinary passport holder can travel to Philippines, Maldives, Macau (Visa on Arrival, VOA) and India (VOA) without visa. From September 2011, travel to Indonesia is also free for periods of up to 30 days.[1]

In April 2010 the Myanmar passport was upgraded from hand-written to machine readable passport.
