Nokia phone series

Nokia phone series

Nokia's nomenclature can be traced back since 2005, when the Nseries line was introduced.[1] Because of the demands and peak of that line, Nokia again introduced another series of phones named Eseries,[2] made mostly for the enterprise market.[3] In 2009, Nokia dropped their four-number naming scheme[4] and focused on their two existing lines, with additional two introduced during Nokia World[5] being the Xseries which is for entertainment and music enthusiasts,[6] while Cseries is what Nokia considers their "core" range of products, and a Zseries line that was intended for tablets remain unreleased.[7] A Chinese-exclusive range of devices named Tseries was introduced on 13 June 2011.[8] Two more series were added at Nokia World 2011 like the Aseriesas the Asha and Lserieswhich is also termed the Lumia.[9][10]

As a developer-only offering, Nokia will not be offering warranties to the device, but will provide free software updates.[108] It is referred to as a "beta testing only" device, where developers can test their applications made specifically for the MeeGo operating system.[109] The phone was finally unveiled to developers (and will not be consumer market available) on the company's Nokia Connection 2011 event.[110] A video review was released on YouTube[111] and several press shots were uploaded by Engadget on 21 June 2011.[111]

Stephen Elop confirmed that the company is not returning to MeeGo even when the phone is proved to be a success.[136] The phone recently won three awards in the Swedish Gold Mobile Awards in the following categories: Best Design, Best Camera on A Phone and Best Mobile of 2011.[137]

Nokia Zseries (stands for Zuper) is supposed to be Nokia's MeeGo tablet series. Originally intended to be released in 2010 and early 2011, the tablets were cancelled for unknown reasons. Only a product name has been revealed from the Ovi Store in November 2010.[259]

The list may also include upcoming devices or others that are previously intended to be a part of the series, but was scrapped or renamed due to Nokia's number-only naming change. These are the tablets included in the series:

  • Nokia Z500[259] is the sole representative of the series, at least as leaked, and was shown on the Ovi Store in November 2010.[260] It was removed a few days later, leading speculations that the tablet will be postponed. The tablet runs on a native version of the MeeGo operating system, and is packed with an ARM chip.[261] On a Disney film called Tron: Legacy, the tablet was shown being used during a meeting in ENCOM Inc., by one of the movie's characters.[262] However, Eldar Murtazin tweeted that the tablet was to be cancelled due to the falling off of agreements between the carrier's pricing of the device, particularly AT&T.[263] Several demo videos appeared on video-sharing site YouTube, containing details on how the device works and how to use it.[264] Only one picture of the device has been known to exist as of the moment, and was captured inside Nokia's mobile development office by an unknown employee.[265] Patent applications for the said device have been gathered from the FCC files on March 2011, and since then, nothing was heard from Nokia Z500 anymore.[266]
