French ship Argonaute

French ship Argonaute

A large number of ships of the French Navy have borne the name "Argonaute" in honour of the mythological navigators argonauts. Among them:
* The 74-gun ship of the line "Argonaute" (1794), which fought at the Battle of Trafalgar.
* The "Argonaute", a French privateer vessel commanded by Emmanuel-Auguste de Cahideuc, Comte Dubois de la Motte.
* A torpedo boat built in 1892 and launched in 1893, decommissioned in 1910
* A submarine, built in 1927, launched in 1929, sunk by the HMS "Achates" on the 8 November 1942
* A submarine of the "Aréthuse" type (1958), now a museum.
