National Law University, Delhi (University of Law), abbreviated to NLUD is a specialised law university offering courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It is situated in Sector- 14, Dwarka, New Delhi, India. NLUD is one of the elite national law schools in India built on the five-year law degree model proposed and implemented by the Bar Council of India.

History

NLUD was established in 2008 in the National Capital Territory of Delhi with the initiative of the High Court of Delhi. The University has state of the art infrastructure at Sector 14, Dwarka, with all facilities for the best of learning and research. The University initially offers a 5-year integrated B.A., LL.B (Hons.) degree programme with effect from the Academic Year 2008-09 starting in August, 2008

National Law University, Delhi is the newest addition to the existing network of National Law Universities throughout the country. NLU, Delhi also shares the broader vision of providing quality legal education to produce a new generation of lawyers that are competent and humane. The academic curriculum is designed to enable prospective lawyers to deal with the legal systems of India and other countries.

The University endeavours to bridge the gap between the theoretical and practical application of concepts through a learning process which is stimulative, participative and multi-disciplinary. NLUD seeks to ignite and nurture the spirit of inquiry. Physical infrastructure developments are also being considered. Keeping in view, what Mahatma Gandhi said, “We must become the change we want to see in the world”, the University sincerely seeks to make legal education to be an instrument of social, political and economic change.

Moot Achievements

The NLUD team composed of Sarvjeet Singh, Akshay Bd, Ankit Chauhan and Shreya Rastogi reached the octa-finals of the 52nd Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition (International Round) held in Washington D.C., USA. The team ranked overall 9th in the world and Shreya Rastogi and Akshay Bd were adjudged 9th and 17th best oralists in the world respectively. In addition to this, the team also won the Best Overall Applicant Award.

The NLUD team composed of Sarvjeet Singh, Akshay Bd, Ankit Chauhan and Shreya Rastogi has won the 52nd Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition (India Round) defeating NUJS, Kolkata. In addition to the best team award Akshay BD was adjudged the Best Student Advocate of the competition. Shreya Rastogi was adjudged the Best Student Advocate of the Finals.

The NLUD team composed of Mr. Vishwam Jindal, Mr. Sameer Dawar and Mr. Devesh Saboo reached the Semi Finals of 12th D.M. Harish Memorial Government College International Moot court Competition, 2011 held on February 11–13, 2011 at Government Law College, Mumbai.

The NLUD team composed of Arjun Masters, Shweta Duggal and Saiteja Vangala won 5th LAW ASIA International Moot Competition, 2010 held on November 11–14, 2010 held at New Delhi.

The NLUD team composed of Aditya Singha, Paramvir Singh and Devanshu Sajlan, won the 3rd Justice Hidayatullah National Memorial Moot Court Competition held on October 22–24, 2010 organized by HNLU, Raipur. Aditya Singha has secured the Best Speaker, and a cash prize of Rs. 5,000 & Devanshu Sajlan has been adjudged the Best Researcher, and awarded cash prize of Rs. 5,000. The team has won Rs.25,000.

The NLUD team of Nishant Bhaskar, Nitika Dwivedi and Salmoli Choudhuri attained the Third Position in 4th Annual NALSAR Justice Bodh Raj Sawhny Memorial Moot Court Competition, 2010 held on October 8–10, 2010 organized by Nalsar University of Law, Hyderabad. The Judges appreciated and commended the performance of the NLUD team.

The NLUD team of Hardeep Singh, Sameer Dawar and Paramvir Singh ranked 3rd in the 1st International Air Law Moot Court Competition held on March 3–6, 2010 on the NLUD Campus. Hardeep Singh was adjudged the Best Oralist and awarded a scholarship by Ministry of Transport, The Netherlands for an LL.M. Programme in Air & Space Law at Leiden University, The Netherlands.
