Narrow gauge railway in Gwalior

Narrow Gauge railway in Gwalior is one of the narrowest railways not only in the country but in the world. It was started by the Scindias many years ago from Gwalior to Sheopur Kalan and Bhind as a personal railway but after Independence the Narrow gauge railway came under the Indian Railways and is now operated by them only.The narrow gauge Railway route to Bhind was closed in 1999 but the route to sheopur is still operated by the railways.

Current Status

Consensus in gong on to shut down the Narrow gauge of Gwalior completely and to change it into Broad Gauge as the number of passengers in increasing and the narrow Gauge trains are unable to carry those. Gwalior Narrow gauge has been an important part of the city's culture
