National Housing and Construction Company Limited (NHCC), is a Ugandan construction and real estate management company, owned by the Uganda Government. The Company’s mandate is to increase the housing stock in the country, rehabilitate the housing industry and encourage Ugandans to own homes in an organized environment.^[2]

History

NHCC was established by the National Housing Corporation Act of 1964. The act was later repealed by the 1974 Decree to form National Housing and Construction Corporation. In July 2002, the Corporation became a Public Limited Liability Company known as National Housing and Construction Company Limited.

Ownership

NHCC is 100% owned by the Government of Uganda.

Asset base

NHCC owns assets in excess of US$70 million, with annual turnover of US$6 million.^[3] NHCC owns 5% of Housing Finance Bank, Uganda's 11th largest commercial bank.

Products and services

• Design, construct and sale high quality homes in an organized environment
• Offer consultancy services in real estate development and management
• Provide construction services for medium and large-scale projects
• Offer Property Management Services for the government-owned ultra-modern Crested Towers Office Complex in downtown Kampala

Current projects

As of December 2009, the following are some of the construction and management projects that NHCC is involved in:^[4]

• Sunset Apartments - 268 Apartment Homes (3 bedrooms each) - Kiwaatule, Kampala
• Bukoto Housing Project - 105 Housing Units - Bukoto, Kampala
• Ntinda Housing Project - 80 Housing Units - Ntinda, Kampala
• Naalya Housing Project - 610 Housing Units - Naalya, Kira Town, Wakiso District
• Lubowa Housing Project - 33 Executive Mansions - Lubowa, Wakiso District
• Mpumudde Housing Project - 20 Bungalows - Jinja
• Condominiums Sales have been completed to over 200 tenant-occupants in developments in the following sections of Kampala: Kololo, Nakasero and Bugoloobi
• Condominium Sales are planned to over 1,300 tenant-occupants in the following sections of Kampala: Bukoto, Bugoloobi and Wandegeya.
• NHCC has engaged the third parties to construct the following developments which NHCC does not own:
  • Administrative Office Block at Wakiso District Headquarters - Wakiso Municipality
  • District Health Services Block at Wakiso District Headquarters - Wakiso Municipality
  • Laboratory and Library at Busuubizi, Mityana District
  • Laboratory and Library at Ibanda, Ibanda District
  • Laboratory and Library at Kibuli, Kampala
  • Office Block at Kajjansi, Wakiso District
  • Office Block at Mbarara University, Mbarara
