History

Arran Stephens, the CEO and co-founder with his wife Ratana,[1] of Nature's Path opened Canada's first large organic supermarket in 1971.[1] Called Lifestream, the supermarket had an electric-powered 20” stone-buhr mill[4] which ground tons of fresh whole-grain flour every day.[4] The Lifestream brand was eventually sold to Kraft/Phillip Morris[1] and in 1985 the Stephens' started a new company: Nature's Path.[1]

The first product produced by Nature's Path was called Manna Bread®.[5] Based on a passage from The Essene Gospel,[5] the bread was a sprouted bread.[5] Eventually, the brand grew to 140 cereal and breakfast products with $300 million in annual sales.[6] Andrew Weil teamed up with Nature's Path to introduce cobranded fruit and nut bars.[7] The company owns 2240 acres of farmland in Saskatchewan[1] used for organic farming.[1]
