Club career

Canobbio began his career with C.A. Progreso in 1997. In three seasons there he was impressive enough to be signed by Uruguayan giants C.A. Peñarol in 2001, where he spent two seasons, scoring 26 goals in 73 matches, while helping the capital side to the 2003 league title.

In 2003 he was picked up by Rafael Benítez's Valencia CF, where he would spend one year, mainly as a substitute. Having scored just once throughout the season, in a 2–2 home draw with Celta de Vigo, Canobbio nonetheless managed to appear 10 times (with a goal in a 3–2 success against Beşiktaş J.K.) in the side's 2004 UEFA Cup conquest.

In 2004–05, Canobbio joined, on loan, freshly relegated Celta, with the Galician outfit having the option to buy at the end of the season, which was activated as he finished as Celta's joint-top scorer at 12 (with Jandro) and a La Liga promotion befell.

After three additional seasons as an important offensive player, scoring seven goals in 2007–08, as Celta failed to return to the first division, Canobbio was released on July 2008, subsequently joining Real Valladolid.

In November 2008, Canobbio netted in home wins against Sevilla FC (3–2, two goals) and Real Madrid (1–0), and appeared regularly during two seasons, being relegated in his second. On 26 July 2010, the 30-year old moved to Greece, signing a one-year contract with Larissa FC.

International career

An international since 7 October 2001, in a 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Colombia, Canobbio went on to represent the nation at the 2007 Copa América, playing two matches for the semifinalists.

Previously, he played at the 1999 FIFA World Youth Championship.[1]
