Ngawang Sungrab Thutob

Ngawang Sungrab Thutob (1874-1952; སྟག་བྲག་ནག་དབང་གསུང་རབ།; 三世达扎阿旺松绕) was the third Taktra Rinpoche, Wylie transliteration: sTag-brag pandita and regent of Tibet.

He was responsible for raising and educating the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso.^[1]

As a regent he succeeded the fifth Reting Rinpoche, Jamphel Yeshe Gyaltsen, at the beginning of 1941, with whom he got into conflict later. The Reting Rinpoche rebelled, got captured and lost life in the prison under the Potala Palace.^[2]

Mass media in China claims that he's responsible for the death of Jamphel Yeshe Gyaltsen, who was the teacher of 14th Dalai Lama. They praise Jamphel Yeshe Gyaltsen to be who love the country and the religion while evaluate Ngawang Sungrab Thutob to be "pro-Britain pro-Slavery spearatist".

4th Taktra

In 1955^[3] (or 1954^[4]), the 4th Taktra (单增格列^[3], 丹增格列 or 丹增赤烈^[4]) born. He was recognized by the Chinese government and Dalai Lama in 1958^[3] (or 1957^[4]). His name was given by 14th Dalai Lama. One or two years later, Dalai Lama fled to India.

Ironically, even though mass media in China evaluate Ngawang Sungrab Thutob natively, 4th Taktra became a member of the 6th concil of the Buddhist Association of China and the Vice President of Tibetan Subassociation of Buddhist Association of China. He then call the Dalai Lama as "Dalai Group" and blame them:

少数寺庙僧人不好好学经，不遵守教规，破坏宗教正常秩序，目无国法，与达赖集团遥相呼应，大搞分裂祖国活动，破坏西藏稳定，破坏藏传佛教正常秩序，损坏了宗教界和广大信教群众的根本利益，我们决不答应，坚决反对。
