Admiral Sir Nicholas John Streynsham Hunt GCB LVO (born 7 November 1930) was Commander-in-Chief Fleet.

Naval career

Educated at the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, Hunt was commissioned into the Royal Navy and then became Assistant Private Secretary to Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent.[1]

He was appointed an Executive Officer on HMS Ark Royal in 1969.[1] He went on to be Director of Naval Plans at the Ministry of Defence in 1976 and Flag Officer of the Second Flotilla in 1980.[1] He became Director-General Naval Manpower & Training in 1981 and Flag Officer Scotland and Northern Ireland in 1983.[1] He was appointed Commander-in-Chief Fleet in 1985 and retired in 1987.[1]

In 1987 he became Deputy Managing Director at Eurotunnel and in 1991 he was made Director-General of the Chamber of Shipping.[1] In 1998 he was appointed Chairman of Chatham Historic Dockyard.[2] He was also Rear Admiral and then Vice-Admiral of the United Kingdom. Hunt is known to be a strong supporter of the Nuclear deterrent.[3] He is a former Chairman of the Royal Navy Club of 1765 & 1785 (United 1889).[4]

Family

In 1966 he married Meriel Eve Givan; they went on to have two sons (one of whom is Jeremy Hunt the politician)[5] and one daughter.[1]
