A constitutional referendum was held in Niger on 31 October 2010, following the 2010 Nigerien coup d'état which ousted Tandja Mamadou.^[1] Parliamentary elections will follow on 31 January 2011, and presidential elections will be held on 31 January and 12 March 2011.

According to first results with 172 of the 264 districts reporting, turnout was 54.16%, and 93.48% of voters were in favour of the new constitution.^[2] Preliminary results gave a turnout of 53% and 90.18% in favour. The constitution grants immunity to the coup leaders and stipulates they have to hand over power by 6 April 2011.^[3]
