History

The station was constructed in the early 1990s, opening in 1994. It was built as a replacement for the 16th Street Station, which had been severely damaged in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. An adjacent building was used as the rail station until tracks were moved to the west for the opening of Jack London Square Station.[1]

The station facility is owned by the Port of Oakland, while the tracks are owned by the Union Pacific Railroad.[1]
