Ollur Railway Station falls between Thrissur Railway Station and Pudukad Railway station in the Shoranur-Cochin Harbour section. It lies in the busy Shoranur-Cochin Harbour section of Trivandrum division. Ollur Railway Station is operated by the Chennai-headquartered Southern Railways of the Indian Railways. The station is mainly used freight movement and handling. Cement wagons and rice are the main source of revenue for this station.

History

Ollur Railway Station traces its history to 1902, when Shoranur-Cochin railway line was built during the rule of Sir Sri Rama Varma of Cochin Royal family. Britishers bought the land and the house of Moyalan Varghees for Rs 50 to construct the Ollur railway station.[1]Cochin-ShoranurRailway line was built by the Cochin Royal Family and was opened to public in 1902. On the initial years only one was railway line was there. In the year 1934, it was converted to Broad Gauge from Metre Gauge. The line at that time was constructed and maintained by erstwhile Madras Railway Company, now Southern Railway.

In earlier days, the station was used to send tiles and wooden packing boxes to different parts of India. Later cement bags replaced as the preferred goods. Now, at least 500 wagons of cement bags are coming to this station monthly for the consumption of Central Kerala. Ollur Railway Station has given big contributions to the growth of Thrissur District and Central Kerala. Now, this railway line in the Central part of Kerala is considered as one of the busiest railway route in Kerala and handles very high traffic intensity including passenger and goods.

Only six passenger trains stops at Ollur Railway Station. They are Guruvayur - Ernakulam Junction Passenger, Ernakulam Junction-Guruvayur Passenger, Guruvayur-Ernakulam Junction Passenger, Ernakulam Junction-Guruvayur Passenger, Shoranur-Ernakulam Junction Passenger and Ernakulam Junction-Shoranur Passenger. Shoranur-Ernakulam Junction Passenger runs between Ernakulam Junction and Shoranur Junction. The train operates daily except on Sundays and covers a distance of 113 km. Second class seating coaches are available. Guruvayur - Ernakulam Junction Passenger runs between Ernakulam Junction and Guruvayur Railway Station.
