Innsbruck's Hofgarten is a protected park. On the edge of the Old Town or Altstadt it borders on the Hofburg, Kongresshaus and Tyrolean State Theatre. During its 600 year existence the park, which has an area of 10 hectares, has gone from being a river meadow to a Renaissance garden and a Baroque garden before finally being landscaped as an English garden about 150 years ago..
