Helicopter 4 - HAL Dhruvs

Sarang (Sanskrit: सारंग - Peacock) is the helicopter formation display team of the Indian Air Force.The team flies four HAL Dhruvs. The name Sarang (Peacock in Sanskrit) is symbolic as it is the national bird of India. The team was formed in October 2003 and their first public performance was at the Asian Aerospace Show, Singapore, 2004.[1] The team also performed at the Farnborough and Aero India air shows. The team performed at the 76th Anniversary of Indian Air Force in Hindon Air Force Base on 8th Oct 2008.

Incidents

In February 2007, the team had its first fatal accident when a Dhruv crashed[2] at Yelahanka during a rehearsal before Aero India-2007 co-pilot Squadron Leader Priye Sharma was killed, and the pilot Wing Commander V Jetely received serious head injuries.Wg Cdr Vikas Jetley died in Jan 2011 at a Delhi hospital, after being in a coma for more than 3 years after the accident.
