"Treasure in the Royal Tower" is a computer game which was based loosely on a book of the same name. The book is part of a popular mystery series, created in 1930 by Edward Stratemeyer. The heroine of the books, as well as the computer game, is named Nancy Drew. It is based on book #128 in the Nancy Drew Mystery Stories series. It takes place in Wisconsin.

Plot

Nancy's fun ski vacation in an old Wisconsin castle has been interrupted by a fierce blizzard! Snowbound inside the castle, Nancy learns of an elaborate plot devised by Marie Antoinette 200 years ago to hide a royal treasure. Nancy uncovers the rich history of the lodge, and some mysterious events, which all lead to the hidden treasure. She learns about the eccentric fellow that built the lodge, and that one of the towers is believed to be the last hiding place of Marie Antoinette...now the blizzard has trapped everyone inside the castle, just as Marie was, long, long ago.

Characters

*Nancy Drew, the player character and detective of the series responsible for cracking the case.

*Dexter Egan, the orphan, but later adopted son of Ezra Wickford. He resides in Wickford Castle as the caretaker, despite the fact that he was under no circumstance to inherit the castle after being . Could that make him want to find the treasure and claim it for himself?

*Professor Beatrice Hotchkiss, in her own words, a " of French history," though "specializing in Marie Antoinette." She spends most of her time in her room (#214) typing away for her "research." Professor Hotchkiss returns in "Legend of the Crystal Skull".

*Lisa Ostrum, a photojournalist who is at the castle to write an article about old Wisconsin castles. Usually seen reading a magazine by the fire, she carries "alternate identities." Is this because she's on the lam?

*Jacques Brunais, a famous French ski instructor. Nancy learns that he was formerly a contestant in "last year's Winter Olympics." Jacques is thought by many to be quite handsome and spends his time at Wickford Castle painting wooden boxes. He also has a fiancé named Isabelle. Bess Marvin mentions in a telephone call that his French accent "should be illegal." Behind this cutie, could there be a sinister mastermind?

*Ned Nickerson, Nancy's boyfriend, Bess Marvin and George Fayne two of Nancy's most trusted friends that help her with the case via telephone, or, as George puts it, the "detective support hotline" (in "The Final Scene").
