"More pertinent to us is the fact that Atco, in the same neighborhood, took its name from the Atlantic Transportation Company..."] Camden and Atlantic Railroad was founded in 1854; it crossed the Pinelands from Camden to Atlantic City. The Raritan and Delaware Bay Railroad was established soon after, linking Atco to communities such as Toms River, Waretown, Atsion and Vineland.

Atco Ghost

Legend has it that the ghost of a young boy haunts Burnt Mill Road in Atco. Supposedly, about 8 years ago a young boy was killed by a speeding car or truck(depending on who is telling the story) after he ran out into the road chasing after a ball. If you go to Burnt Mill Road at night, park at the gate of the soccer fields then blink your light three times. Then drive up to the third telephone pole, and turn off your lights you might see the boy chasing after his ball.

I practice on the soccer fields on the same streets. I have done this before and I DID see the ghost. If you do it correctly it will work. On August 9th, 2008, Delaware Valley Paranormal Association(DVPA) announced that they will be filming a documentary on [http://www.delvalparanormal.org/atcoghost/atcoghost.html the Atco Ghost] that is scheduled to be released this upcoming Halloween.

Besides the DVPA's film, the Atco Ghost has also been featured in the book, Weird NJ.
