Name
The municipality is named after the
Etnefjorden (Old Norse "Etnir"). Thefjord is probably named after an old river name "Etna" (nowEtneelvi ). See also|EtnedalCoat-of-arms
The coat-of-arms is from modern times. They were granted on 16 December 1983. The arms represent the strong unity between the two former municipalities
