Coherent control

Coherent control

Coherent control is a quantum mechanical based method for controlling dynamical processes with light, employing quantum interference phenomena which are controlled by shaping the phase of laser pulses. A detailed discussion of this approach can be found in the book Principles of the Quantum Control of Molecular Processes, by Moshe Shapiro and P. Brumer, (Wiley, New York, 2003).

Using this method it is already possible to control many processes, such as the direction of motion of electrons in semiconductors, the breaking of chemical bonds and the absorption of light.
