Intrahepatic bile ducts are part of the outflow system of exocrine bile product from the liver.

They can be divided into large and small ducts.[1] Examples include:

  • Large: left and right hepatic ducts

Alternatively, they may refer to the ducts found between the interlobular bile ducts and the left and right hepatic ducts.[citation needed] The epithelium of these ducts is described as simple columnar epithelium with dense fibroelastic connective tissue and smooth muscle.
