July 3 ,1980 inOwosso, Michigan ) is a formerquarterback in theNational Football League . He transferred toColorado State University fromMichigan State University . He is the son of former NFLlinebacker Brad Van Pelt .A very physical player, Van Pelt dedicates himself to developing himself in the weight room and in the film room. Kansas City Chiefs .Van Pelt has been criticized for his "run first, then throw" mentality. He silenced quite a few critics his senior year finding his favorite target David Anderson often, and throwing for nearly 3,000 yards and over 60% completion rate.Fact|date=January 2008 However, he came within 100 yards in passing and rushing of becoming the only collegiate quarterback to pass for 3,000 yards and rush for 1,000 yards in the same season.

Jake Plummer and Cutler. He was released by theDenver Broncos on2 September 2006 .Van Pelt was then signed by the Houston Texans on November 27, 2006 to be their third-string quarterback, brought in by his former coach in Denver,
Gary Kubiak . He was released by the Texans on August 27, 2007.
