Clear Lake State Park is a state park in California, featuring Clear Lake, a large lake formed by ancient volcanic activities. 149 Developed campsites are available in 4 campground areas, with two group camp sites as well. There is a swimming beach; mind the lake weeds, which make for the splendid fishing in Clear Lake. There are outdoor showers near the beach, and near the Cole Creek boat launch with its little marina (leave your boat in the water, or tie-up in your campsite). Since the area is a major breeding ground for grebes, there's a nice broad "no wake" zone in the Cole Creek launch area and near the reedy shoreline - which makes for calm canoeing and kayaking. Up the hill there are two hiking trails laid out.

Proposed for closure?

Clear Lake State Park is one of the 48 California state parks proposed for closure in January 2008 by California's Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and again in Fall 2009, as part of a deficit reduction program.[1] Fortunately the State budget recently passed retains the parks as open, with austerity budgets. Populist site Save Our State Parks [2] regularly updates the state of state budgeting and impact on various state parks.
