Andy Dunlop

Andy Dunlop

Andrew Dunlop (born 16 March 1972 in Lenzie, East Dunbartonshire, Scotland, UK) is the lead guitarist of Scottish indie band, Travis.

Biography

Dunlop attended Lenzie Academy. The band Travis got their break with the album "The Man Who", named after a bestselling book. It got the international success, and became the biggest selling album in the UK in 1999.

As well as being the guitarist, Dunlop has also tried writing songs. "You Don't Know What I'm Like" features as a hidden track on the band's third album, "The Invisible Band". Other numbers penned by Andy include Ancient Train, Central Station and The Sea. For their band's latest album, "Ode to J. Smith", Dunlop has contributed his song-writing skills in the band's single "Something Anything". This is also the first single that Travis released that has not been written by Healy.

During live performances Dunlop likes to show off his guitar skills, for example during "As You Are", Dunlop may rest the guitar on his knee and slide it up and down whilst he holds on to the volume control, creating a fade in and out sound found on the album around 02:20. Whilst playing "All I Want To Do Is Rock", Andy will also usually climb up onto his amp stack, get loads of feedback, and play from there. At a performance at Koko Andy proceeded to climb round onto a balcony where he hung from whilst dangling his guitar above the crowd.

Together with Guy Berryman and Will Champion of Coldplay, Dunlop contributed to the first solo album of a-ha keyboardist Magne Furuholmen entitled Past Perfect Future Tense.

Dunlop is married to Jo Monaghan. In December 2005 the couple's first child, a son, was born, and is named Dylan Green Dunlop. The family currently resides in Liverpool.
