Abercraf

Abercraf is a village in the Welsh county of Powys.

Location

It lies in the extreme south of the county, in the Upper Swansea Valley 3 miles (4.5 km) from the small town of Ystradgynlais.

Amenities

The Brecon Beacons National Park boundary begins to the northwest of the village. The village has several public houses, a rugby union club, Abercraf RFC, and a Miners' Welfare Hall, a testament to the village's coal mining past. The coal pits in nearby Caehopcyn ceased production in the 1960s, though an open cast coal mine operates in the region.

The village is on the slopes of the mountain Cribarth, famous for its 'Sleeping Giant' outline, clearly visible from the nearby A4067 Swansea-Brecon road.
