Roy Mayorga

Roy Mayorga

Roy "Maurice" Mayorga (born April 6, 1970 in New York City, New York) is the drummer for the hard rock band Stone Sour. He is of Ecuadorian and Cuban descent

Musical History

Previous stints under the drummer's belt include being the original drummer for Brazilian metal band Soulfly. Prior to joining Soulfly, he also played with New York Hardcore band Shelter in 1996. He also played drums for one of the most influential political bands from New York in the late 80s/early 90s: Nausea. He played drums on the album 'The Hollowing' with metal band Crisis [ [http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=1972757 MySpace.com - CRISIS - Los Angeles by way of New York City - Rock / Metal / Expérimentale - www.myspace.com/crisis ] ] .

He was briefly a member of the band Medication from 2001 until 2003, when he left the group to rejoin Soulfly

In 2004 he helped create rock band ABLOOM as with vocalist Jasan Radford and lead guitarist Levon Sultanian. Also part of the band was Mike Doling (ex-Snot, ex-Soulfly), Roy Mayorga (ex-Soulfly) and John Fahnestock (ex-Snot). Fahnestock left and was replaced by Marcelo Dias aka Marcello D. Rapp (ex-Soulfly). The band is currently on hiatus but are looking to start up again in the near future.

In 2005 he appeared as one of the drummers on the Roadrunner United compilation CD, The All-Star Sessions, playing on "The Enemy", "The End" and "Baptized in the Redemption", all tracks being produced and musically written by ex-Fear Factory guitarist Dino Cazares. "The End" spawned a music video.

On another note Roy Mayorga also does classical film scoring when not on the road touring and is currently working on a solo record of that nature. Mayorga temporarily filled in behind the drumkit for Sepultura's 2006 European tour with In Flames following Igor Cavalera's absence.

He officially joined Stone Sour on May 10th, 2006 as a replacement for Joel Ekman. He drummed for their second release, Come What(ever) May, released August 1st. Roy is endorsed by DW (Drum Workshop) and was endorsed by Zildjian Cymbals but it can be seen in recent videos that he now uses Sabian.

He also played for the reunited Amebix and now currently playing for Black President (band)

Some people may not know this but Roy Mayorga went to Whitehall High School in Allentown, PA for a brief period and dropped out in 1986 to go on his first tour of the states. A year later Roy moved back to his city of origin New York.
