Childproof

Childproof

Something that is child resistant (or childproof) has been made relatively safe for contact with, or use by, children or infants. Childproofing involves reducing risks to the point that a child should not come to forseable harm, and is a term particularly applied to the act of making a home safe.

Childproofing includes the restriction of children to safe areas, or preventing a child from reaching an unsafe area. Safety gates (also known as "stair gates") are used to help prevent a child from accessing an area of a house, especially the stairway. Playpens are used for restricting movement to a much smaller area.

Childproofing a pool reduces accidental drowning deaths. Many governments require a pool fence to help prevent young child access to the pool, including coming from the house. Many homes use a removable mesh pool fence.

Packaging

"Child-resistant Packaging" or "C-R Packaging" is special packaging used to reduce the risk of children ingesting dangerous items. It is often required by regulation for prescription drugs, over the counter medications, pesticides, and household chemicals.
