East London Transit is a part-segregated bus rapid transit scheme being developed by Transport for London. The scheme has come about due to the existing and anticipated demand for public transport in East London caused by the Thames Gateway redevelopment. The scheme has been developed to allow for a possible future upgrade to tram operation. The Londoner, " [http://www.london.gov.uk/gla/publications/transport/east-londoner.pdf Mapping The Changes] ", March 2006.]

The scheme is being delivered in phases with the first section due for completion in 2009. It will connect National Rail and London Underground stations in the London boroughs of Havering, Redbridge, Barking and Dagenham and Newham with major population centres currently only served by bus routes.

The East London Transit forms part of the larger Thames Gateway Transit plan and it is planned that it will use the Thames Gateway Bridge to connect to the Greenwich Waterfront Transit.
