Belarus did not qualify in the mens hockey tournament due to the country placing second at the Qualification tournament held in February of 2005. The host nation of the tournament, Latvia beat Belarus and the nations of Poland and Slovenia to take one of three seeds available for the 2006 Olympic Games.
