Susan Bysiewicz

Susan Bysiewicz (born 1961) is a Democratic politician, who currently serves as Secretary of the State of the U.S. State of Connecticut. She was first elected to the Secretary of State's office in 1998 and was re-elected in 2002 and 2006.

She also was a candidate for the Democratic Nomination for Governor in 2006. However, in September 2005 she dropped out of the race for Governor. She instead chose to seek a third term as Secretary of the State, and she won that election on November 7, 2006.

Prior to her election to her current post she was a state representative from the 100th District in the Middletown, Connecticut area from 1992 to 1998. She is a graduate of Yale University and Duke University School of Law. She also has authored a biography of former Connecticut Governor Ella Grasso.
